January bills may surprise: who will receive increased electricity bills
In January, the electricity tariff for the population will remain unchanged, but some Ukrainians may face increased payments. This may be a consequence of untimely transmission of meter readings, as reported by Lvivoblenergo.
To correctly determine the accounts, consumers must regularly transmit their electricity meter readings. The last two days of the current month and the first three days of the following month are allocated for this process.
If the readings are submitted outside the specified period, the distribution system operator (DSO) will use average daily values to calculate consumption. This means that the actual meter readings will not be taken into account.
After the consumer has sent the readings, the DSO transmits them to the electricity supplier. If the transmission deadlines are not met, charges are calculated based on average previous consumption rather than actual data. This creates a risk for those who do not submit readings by January 3 – they may receive overstated bills.
Consumers who do not live in their apartments often mistakenly believe that they do not need to submit indicators. However, even in such cases, the DSO and the supplier continue to charge using average consumption indicators.
Experienced specialists advise in such situations:
– submit an application to the DSO for a temporary suspension of electricity supply;
– or send the latest information on meter readings monthly.
Following this simple algorithm will avoid unexpected charges and ensure accurate electricity payments.
