Guaranteed child support payments: minimum child support in 2026

In Ukraine, parents are financially responsible for supporting their children, and new indicators for this area will come into effect in 2026—the changes concern adjustments to the subsistence minimum for children of different ages.

The Ministry of Justice of Ukraine reports that, from the beginning of 2026, the minimum amount of child support cannot be less than 50% of the subsistence minimum, depending on the child’s age. This norm is enshrined in legislation and aims to ensure children’s basic rights, regardless of parents’ financial circumstances.

According to the new standards, from the beginning of 2026, the minimum monthly child support for children under six years of age will be at least 1,408.50 hryvnias, and for children aged six to 18 years, at least 1,756 hryvnias. These amounts provide a basic level of financial support, especially when the payer’s income is insufficient or unstable.

The Ministry emphasizes that the calculation of the minimum alimony will be automatic. This will allow you to avoid unnecessary bureaucratic procedures and receive child support funds promptly.

At the same time, the indicated amounts are not universal. In most cases, the court determines alimony amounts based on the payer’s income. Usually, this is a quarter of the income for one child, a third for two, and half for three or more children.

Thus, the minimum alimony amount in 2026 will serve as a social guarantor, ensuring the necessary level of material support for children, regardless of family circumstances.

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has introduced new conditions for payments upon the birth of a child from January 1, including a one-time allowance of 50 thousand hryvnias and additional support for newborns in 2025.
