Ways to keep warm during a power outage: effective options for apartment buildings
Long, frequent power outages significantly affect the operation of heating systems in apartment buildings. In the absence of backup power, residents can be left without heat even in winter.
For multi-story buildings with electric heating systems, the most effective solution is to install generators. This information was provided by Acting First Deputy Head of the Kyiv City State Administration, Petro Panteleyev.
According to him, the city is implementing co-financing programs, within which more than 4,500 units of backup power equipment have already been purchased. This applies not only to generators, but also to inverters and batteries that help maintain the operation of critical systems in houses.
The urgency of this problem stems from several reasons. Firstly, during partial power outages, houses do not have time to reach the required temperature. Secondly, without a stable power source, the heating system stops.
In addition, inverters and batteries have limited operating time and require time to recharge, which reduces their effectiveness during long outages.
A striking example is the house at 9-A Vaclav Havel Street. After installing a generator, uninterrupted operation of circulation pumps was ensured, allowing heating, water supply, and lighting to be maintained in critical areas for residents.
To date, more than 1,000 residential buildings in the capital have taken advantage of city programs that have enabled them to address the lack of heat during power outages.
At the same time, many multi-storey buildings still need to implement such solutions, indicating the importance of backup power in the city’s infrastructure.
