Mobilization of people over 60: pensioners are being prepared for potential service

The challenge that Ukraine faces in the war with Russia requires constant replenishment of the army. Without new personnel, it is practically impossible to restrain the enemy’s aggression, since there is a shortage of military personnel.

Andriy Kovalev, a candidate of political sciences, during an interview on the “KYIV24” channel, emphasized the need to allow people over 60 to continue serving in combat units.

“We should create opportunities for people over 60 to serve in combat units. This applies not only to staff functions but also to combat operations, because there is a great need for such specialists. It is important that these people have significant combat experience and are ready to remain in service,” the expert noted.

This problem, in his opinion, requires serious attention.

In addition, Kovalev noted that the conditions for those mobilized today are significantly worse than those for those who sign contracts.

The inequality in salaries among military personnel with similar positions across different structures of the Ukrainian Defense Forces remains an important topic that, according to Kovalev, should be reviewed and regulated.

Earlier, it was reported that radical changes in mobilization approaches were needed to avoid coercion. In addition, cases of ill-treatment in territorial recruitment centers, which have become systemic, attracted attention.

It was also recently stated that one should not expect the war to end by 2026, as the likelihood of a near-term resolution is too small.
