Epstein’s unredacted files to be handed over to US Congress on February 9

Starting Monday, February 9, members of the US Congress will be able to review the Department of Justice’s unedited materials on Jeffrey Epstein, but access will be limited: viewing will take place only in the Department’s offices on work computers without the use of personal electronic devices and only 24 hours before the scheduled visit.

The Department of Justice announced that starting on the morning of February 9, members of Congress will be able to review the unedited versions of the dossier on Jeffrey Epstein. The review of documents will take place exclusively on the Department’s premises, and lawmakers will work only on Department computers, with no physical copies allowed. It is assumed that lawmakers must give 24 hours’ notice of their visit and will not be able to bring their own electronic devices; only paper notes are allowed.

The letter to lawmakers emphasizes that this access is currently available only to members of Congress themselves, without the option to involve aides or other staff. The leadership and members of the House and Senate Judiciary Committees will be given priority, but access will be expanded to all lawmakers over time.

The move came in response to demands from Republicans, including the authors of the bill that allowed the release of some of the documents, and support from Democrats on the Judiciary Committee.

Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanch promised to make the materials available once they were announced.

However, officials noted that only about 3 million files are currently available for public review. The total amount of materials in the Department’s possession, officials said, exceeds 6 million items, and there has been no announcement yet about preparations for a review of the remaining documents.
