Next year’s winter will be difficult to survive: what problems need to be solved urgently

Global energy supply problems in Troyeshchyna and Darnytsia may become a reality this winter. This was noted by the former head of Ukrenergo, Volodymyr Kudrytskyi, who emphasized that there is little time left for preparation.

Volodymyr Kudrytskyi noted that these are large residential areas where hundreds of thousands of people live. The energy supply of these territories depends on large generation capacities and main substations. In the capital’s central districts, the energy network is configured more complexly and flexibly: there are more reserve channels and opportunities to respond quickly to problems. In contrast, for the left-bank districts, such options simply do not exist, and in the event of a shutdown of the main source, it will be very difficult to quickly find an alternative.

Troyeshchyna and Darnytsia rely on energy supply from certain combined heat and power plants (CHPs), which have been repeatedly damaged. The operation of these enterprises depends on whether there will be heat in apartments and whether water will flow in frosts. Kudrytsky warns: restoring the destroyed infrastructure and seriously strengthening its defenses — both air and engineering — are critically important to ensure the system’s stability in winter.

In fact, according to Kudrytsky, preparing for the next heating season is a matter of survival for entire districts and must be resolved immediately, not at the last minute.

Earlier, the expert emphasized the consequences Ukraine may face if attacks on energy facilities continue. It also became known that Kyiv residents should prepare for difficult times, as Russian attacks regularly target CHP and Ukrenergo energy nodes.
