У TikTok виникає новий небезпечний тренд "хромінг", який призводить до летальних випадків серед дітей

A dangerous new trend called “chroming” is emerging on TikTok, leading to fatalities among children

A dangerous trend known as “chromeing” is spreading rapidly on social media, particularly on TikTok. This practice involves inhaling household chemical fumes to achieve a short-term state of euphoria. Although similar actions have existed for many years (once called “huffing”), they are now becoming popular again among young people thanks to social media.

Experts warn that even a single inhalation of toxic fumes can lead to sudden cardiac death syndrome — cardiac arrest without visible symptoms.

The recent case of 11-year-old Tommy-Lee Billington caused a stir in society. He was found unconscious at a friend’s house. Despite urgent hospitalization, he could not be saved. The family reported that the boy had participated in a dangerous challenge that was spreading on the Internet. Such stories are becoming more and more common, and doctors emphasize the high risk of serious poisoning, even if the child tries it for the first time.

It should be noted that teenagers use accessible everyday items for their experiments, such as:

– aerosol deodorants;

– markers;

– cleaning products;

– nail polish and solvents;

– paints;

– gas from whipped cream cans.

Since these behaviors are common in every home, parents may not notice them immediately.

Why has this trend become widespread? A 2024 study found that more than 100 videos with “chroming” hashtags have received millions of views. Many of these videos are created by teenagers themselves, who present the dangerous practice playfully or humorously. Thus, children perceive it as safe entertainment, neglecting the reasons for alarm.

Inhaling chemical vapors can cause:

– dizziness and loss of consciousness;
– convulsions;
– brain damage;
– heart, liver, and lung problems;
– suffocation;
– sudden death.

Even one breath can be fatal.

What do experts advise parents to do? It is important not to ignore this problem and not to limit ourselves to prohibitions. It is recommended to:

– openly explain that “chroming” is toxic poisoning, not a safe challenge;
– emphasize real medical consequences;
– teach children to be critical of content on social networks;
– pay attention to changes in behavior and the smell of chemicals;
– Store dangerous aerosols in inaccessible places.

Experts emphasize that a frank conversation with teenagers can significantly reduce the likelihood of such dangerous experiments. Awareness of real risks is more effective than fear or prohibitions.
