Steam has released a “Don’t Play” extension that marks Russian games

A new browser extension called “DO NOT PLAY” has been developed in Ukraine, which simplifies the detection of games on the Steam platform that are related to Russian developers or publishers.

This tool was created by the team that runs the Telegram channel “GRAY” and is already available in the Chrome Web Store. The extension works with all Chromium-based browsers, including Google Chrome, Opera, and Microsoft Edge.

After activating the extension, it automatically marks games on Steam if their developers or publishers are in the integrated database. At the moment, the database contains more than 2,200 companies and studios, and it is planned to be updated regularly. According to the developer, the extension has been in the test version for a long time and is now available to everyone.

In addition to automatically marking companies, users can add new entries themselves via the “+” button on the game page. Additionally, by pressing the “i” button, you can view a list of all marked items and delete them. The interface also lets you add your own comments or emojis that will appear next to the game title if the studio is added to the database.

This initiative aims to simplify the process of verifying developers’ authenticity. Previously, various projects and activists have tried to draw attention to these issues, but the databases quickly become outdated and require regular updates. The new extension will help players make more informed choices and avoid unintentionally supporting companies associated with the aggressor country.
