Gorokhovsky shared a photo of a monobank client with a Russian flag: the girl claims it’s Slovenia

On March 9, Oleg Gorohovsky, co-founder of Monobank, shared a photo of a client who had applied to the bank for video verification on Threads. Gorohovsky noticed what he thought was a Russian flag in the background of the girl. However, the girl quickly denied this, noting that it was the flag of Slovenia, which is a tricolor. The incident quickly gained publicity.

It all started when a Monobank client contacted the support service to ask why her account was blocked. During a video call, the operators noticed a suspicious flag on the wall behind the girl, and Gorohovsky decided to post her photo on the social network, joking about an “unwashed head”.

The next day, the heroine of the incident, Karina, herself, reacted to the situation. She moved from Kharkiv to Slovenia in 2023 and now lives in Germany. Responding to the accusations, she stated that the video call took place in the apartment of a Slovenian friend, where the Slovenian flag was indeed hanging. Karina emphasized that she had never had anything to do with Russia.

A military man and organizer of “VydelkaFest,” Sergey Gnezdilov, said Gorokhovsky should apologize and contact law enforcement if he suspects his clients hold pro-Russian views. At the same time, it became known that the client plans to file a lawsuit over this matter.

The accompanying discussion regarding the violation of personal data protection was not left aside. Gorokhovsky responded categorically to the remarks, stating that “supporters of Russian peace” in Ukraine should not expect protection of their personal data and recommended that they avoid Monobank.
