Psychological advice: three habits of Soviet parents that you should give up

Early Kindergarten Hours: Impact on Children

Not everyone is aware that a child’s sudden entry into kindergarten can be a significant stressor. Many people recall how the first days of kindergarten filled them with fear, tears, and a sense of loneliness.

In the past, particularly in the USSR, mothers quickly returned to work, and children were often sent to kindergartens at a very early age, as it was believed that this would help them adapt to the social environment more quickly.

Modern psychologists emphasize the importance of considering each child’s characteristics and recommend that parents gradually introduce their children to new conditions. After all, during this early period, children need special attention and support.

Forcing them to eat

The phrase “You won’t get up from the table until you finish eating” is familiar to many from childhood. In Soviet times, this was intended to teach children to save food, but today’s experts warn that this practice can form unhealthy eating habits.

By forcing children to eat more than they want, we risk that they will stop listening to their own bodies. This can lead to overeating or even eating disorders. Today, experts advise focusing on children’s appetites and on forming a healthy attitude towards food in them.

Appreciation and praise

The Soviet system of raising children emphasized strict discipline, and praise was appropriate only for achievements. Many adults feared that excessive appreciation could lead to excessive self-confidence or selfishness. However, modern psychologists emphasize the importance of emotional support.

Moderate praise can play an important role in forming healthy self-esteem in children, motivating them to develop and believe in their own strengths. At the same time, a balance should be maintained so that children correctly evaluate their achievements.

Thus, early entry into the social environment, the right attitude towards nutrition, and adequate assessment of success can have a positive impact on children’s development.
