Sony експериментує з динамічним ціноутворенням для ігор на PlayStation

Sony is experimenting with dynamic pricing for PlayStation games

Sony Interactive Entertainment is launching a major test of a new pricing strategy on the PlayStation Store.

According to a report by price tracker PSPrices, the company is introducing the concept of “dynamic pricing” and conducting A/B testing, which has caused a lively reaction from gamers.

The scope of the experiment

The test began back in November of last year and eventually covered more than 150 games in 68 countries. This applies not only to third-party projects, but also to well-known Sony exclusives such as God of War Ragnarök, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Stellar Blade and Helldivers 2.

How it works

Players have noticed that the price of the same game can vary significantly for different accounts, even within the same region. Key features of the experiment:

Different levels of discounts: Participants in the experiment can see prices 5-18% lower than usual. For example, some users saw a price of €69.99 instead of €79.99.
Customized offers: In some cases, discounts reached 56%, including in the game Helldivers 2.
A/B testing: Players are divided into groups to study the impact of price on willingness to buy.
Community feedback

Users expressed their disapproval of the new policy, considering the company’s actions “anti-consumer”. Inequality in prices for the same digital product is perceived as an unfair practice.

Sony representatives have not yet provided detailed comments on the duration or goals of the test. Experts emphasize that dynamic pricing is gaining popularity among large companies, as it allows for a deeper understanding of demand and increases revenue by adapting offers to specific consumer segments.

Whether this practice will become permanent on the PlayStation Store remains to be seen.

Recently, information has appeared that users have begun to massively delete a well-known application. It was also reported that Microsoft canceled plans for a new operating system, and Apple received NATO approval.
