Drugs in pots and parcels: psychotropic substances worth UAH 20 million seized
Law enforcement officers from Rivne have uncovered an interregional channel for the supply of narcotics and psychotropic substances that operated through postal items throughout Ukraine. The estimated value of the seized items on the black market is about 20 million hryvnias.
According to the investigation, the organizer of the scheme is a 28-year-old resident of Kyiv, who recruited a drug-addicted couple from the city of Sarny: a 21-year-old woman and a 24-year-old man. The Kyiv resident supplied various drugs, such as PVP, amphetamine, and cannabis, while the couple packaged these substances and sent them in household items, food boxes, and flowerpots to avoid detection.
During searches in Kyiv and Sarny, law enforcement officers seized more than 7 kg of amphetamine, about 10 kg of PVP, 50 g of mephedrone, more than 5 thousand ecstasy tablets, more than 1 kg of cannabis, as well as scales, packaging materials, drafts and mobile phones.
All three individuals were found to be suspected under parts 2 and 3 of Article 307 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The court chose for them a preventive measure in the form of detention without the possibility of bail.
Expert examinations are ongoing, work is underway to establish the sources of supply and possible other participants in the criminal network.
