Holy Saturday before Easter 2026: the meaning of this day and forbidden things

Holy Saturday is an important day before Easter, when believers focus on prayer and inner peace. This day concludes Holy Week and symbolizes the transition from sorrow to hope, as the celebration of Easter is near.

This day of silence and peace, celebrated on April 11, is a time of prayer and preparation for the great holiday of the Resurrection.

Holy Saturday, or Silent Saturday, is associated with biblical events when, according to legend, the body of Jesus Christ was in the tomb, and His spirit was in hell, where He defeated death and led the righteous to the light.

In Jerusalem, the Holy Fire rises on this day, symbolizing the victory of light over darkness and the beginning of a new life.

This day is marked by strict restrictions, as it concludes Lent. Loud celebrations, parties, weddings, singing and dancing are prohibited, and the atmosphere must remain calm.

You should also not engage in heavy physical labor – repair, construction or field work. It is better to postpone household chores.

Special attention is paid to behavior: quarrels and insults should be avoided on this day, as this is considered a great sin.

The duration of the strictest period of fasting is marked by food restrictions: those who observe the fast are forbidden to eat meat, eggs and dairy products until the end of the night service.

There is also a belief that on this day you should not borrow or give any things or money, as this can lead to financial losses.

Holy Saturday is a day of high spiritual content, and believers usually spend it in prayerful contemplation, preparing for the bright holiday.
