Що не дозволяється планувати 8 квітня та які страви потрібно приготувати сьогодні: заборони та прикмети на Іродіона

What is not allowed to plan on April 8 and what dishes should be prepared today: prohibitions and signs on Herodion

On April 8, according to the new style, the memory of Saint Herodion and other apostles chosen by Jesus is celebrated. This day is also the Great Wednesday of Holy Week for the Orthodox.

This holiday is better known among the people as Rodion Ledol. The name is associated with the fact that with spring, winter gradually disappears, ice covers on water bodies begin to melt, and the crackling of ice is heard.

The holy martyr Herodion, commemorated on this day, was probably of Jewish origin. This is evidenced by the Epistle of the Apostle Paul to the Romans, where he mentions Herodion as his relative. Herodion was born in Tarsus, the name and date of his birth are unknown. He served with the apostles Peter and Paul and later became bishop of the city of Patara.

As a bishop, Herodion actively preached among the pagans and achieved significant success in converting pagans to Christianity. However, the Jews envied his success and provoked an attack on him. Herodion was brutally beaten, but by God’s grace he survived. After that, the saint continued his sermons and later died a martyr.

On this day, believers pray for the strengthening of faith and peace of mind.

Traditions and beliefs

April 8 is considered the day when, according to popular belief, the moon and sun meet. If this meeting took place in a peaceful atmosphere, the day seemed sunny and warm, which promised a hot summer. The opposite conditions indicated that the summer would be cool and rainy.

Easter Wednesday is a sad day, because on this day Judas Iscariot betrayed Jesus. According to tradition, prayers are read in churches, and believers can eat certain types of food, for example, vegetables, fruits, and Lenten bread.

What not to do on April 8

On this day, the church forbids quarrels, gossip, envy and resentment. It is also forbidden to participate in celebrations, needlework and wedding ceremonies. Also, according to popular beliefs, it is not recommended to plan important matters, as it is believed that they may not come true, and efforts will lead to financial problems.

St. Rodion’s Day is a deep reflection of national traditions and faith, as well as a time for reflection on the importance of peace and mutual respect.
