Drivers are being asked to limit their speed to 30 km/h: where they plan to establish new rules

In Kyiv, the possibility of seasonally increasing the speed limit to 80 km/h was abolished in 2023. Now, from April 1 to November 1, the limit of 50 km/h remains in all city areas. However, experts recommend introducing an additional speed reduction to 30 km/h on some streets, especially where there is an increased risk of accidents and a large number of pedestrians.

Mykola Ilchuk, an expert of the “For Safe Roads” initiative, drew attention to the need to strengthen control over compliance with speed limits in the capital on the air of the “KYIV24” channel.

He emphasized that the difference between the officially established limit of 50 km/h and the actual speed, which often reaches 70 km/h, is a significant problem. This creates conditions for impunity for drivers, since fines are imposed only when exceeding the speed limit by more than 20 km/h.

“In Ukraine, the Code of Administrative Offenses does not provide for penalties for exceeding the speed limit by up to 20 km/h. This gap in the legislation must be closed. It makes no sense to prohibit speeding without real measures to punish it,” Ilchuk emphasized.

We will remind you that it was recently reported that new requirements for tolls on highways will be introduced, as well as the return of mandatory vehicle inspections from 2026. Experts also noted that fines for speeding may be increased, which explains the need for more stringent measures.
