Not a sequel, but a new plot: details about Once Upon a Time in Hollywood 2 have emerged

Last week, Hollywood media reported that Netflix is working on a new movie called Once Upon a Time in Hollywood 2. Sean Fennessey, a close friend of Quentin Tarantino, confirmed this information.

In this project, Tarantino plays the role of a screenwriter, while David Fincher will take the director’s chair. Fennessey revealed the information about the possible start of filming in the summer on The Big Picture podcast (according to World of Reel):

“David Fincher has a long list of unfinished films… I can’t say that this is the project that will start shooting in July, but it looks like it could be.”

It is worth noting that this film should not be seen as a direct continuation of the previous part. It is rather a new story that is closely related to the original. The main characters are the stunt double and stuntman Cliff Booth, whose role will be played again by Brad Pitt.

“This is probably not a sequel, but a second movie that echoes the first. Think of The Big Sleep with Humphrey Bogart and Farewell, My Fair Lady in 1975. It’s the same world, but with different actors, directors, and era,” emphasized Fennessey.

The film is set in 1977, about eight years after the first movie’s events.

Interestingly, back in March 2023, Tarantino announced that his next and final film would be in the style of the 1970s. Initially, it was a movie about a famous film critic, but later, the project turned into a work with the participation of Brad Pitt and Fincher.

Fincher and Pitt had already collaborated on iconic films such as Seven, Fight Club, and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

The estimated budget of the film is about $200 million. It is not known whether the movie will be first shown in theaters before being released on streaming.

In addition, insider Jeff Snyder hinted that Leonardo DiCaprio and Margot Robbie might appear in the project.
