The monument to the little founders of Kyiv received a new “outfit” for the Easter holidays
Kyiv has once again plunged into the atmosphere of festive spring. On Pochtova Square, the statues of the capital’s children-founders received new Easter outfits. Now, Kyi, Shchek, Khoryv, and Lybid greet visitors in festive costumes.
The sculptural composition depicting the children-founders of Kyiv has traditionally changed its appearance on the square. The boys are dressed in angelic outfits, and the girls are dressed in Ukrainian clothing with a scarf.
Along with the new outfits, other holiday elements have also appeared on the square. An Easter basket and lamps have been installed here, emphasizing the importance of this holiday for the city.
The sculptures’ author, Volodymyr Zhuravel, shared photos of the updated figures and added a short wish: “Christ is Risen!!!” His creations have long become an integral part of Kyiv’s festive traditions.
The composition “Little Boys Launching Ships” was created in 2017 and is located on the reconstructed Pochtova Square. It consists of three boys who represent the founding brothers of Kyiv – Kyi, Shchek, and Khoryv. They play with ships on a stylized map of the city.
Next to the boys is a bronze bench on which sits a girl, symbolizing Lybid – the sister of the legendary brothers. This monument often changes its appearance during holidays and important events, symbolizing the connection between generations and the city’s history.
This year, the statues also changed their attire to the National Guard uniform for the Day of the National Guard of Ukraine.
