Free public transport: where you don’t have to pay for travel
In 2025, all passengers will be able to use municipal public transport for free. This initiative will be financed from the budget.
However, it should be noted that the program will be implemented only in Kharkiv. The city mayor, Ihor Terekhov, announced this during a national telethon, confirming plans for free travel.
According to the mayor, municipal transport in Kharkiv is currently free. Although this poses specific financial challenges for the city budget, the program will continue to operate.
The main goal of this measure is to support residents and ease the financial burden on families during wartime. “Let these funds be spent on the needs of families, and we will take on the costs of travel so that free travel is available in Kharkiv,” said Ihor Terekhov.
Thus, by the end of 2025, Kharkiv residents can use municipal transport for free. Free travel will be available on trams, trolleybuses, metro, and municipal buses. This initiative was introduced in 2022 and continues annually.
