Third child for $3,000: scammers who “created” parents with many children to travel abroad will be tried in the Kyiv region
A case has been opened in Kyiv against an organized crime group that provided $3,000 in assistance to conscripts in the registration of fictitious paternity to avoid mobilization and travel abroad. The perpetrators recruited low-income mothers who had children and obtained the necessary decisions through corrupt connections in the Odessa regional court.
The Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office, together with the Pechersk District Prosecutor’s Office, sent an indictment to the court against members of this criminal group who illegally traveled abroad for conscripts. Using a scheme with a fictitious registration of a third child, the men could legally cross the border.
The organizers sought women with difficult life circumstances who were ready to recognize a foreign man as the father of their child for a reward of $500. The remaining $2,500 remained in the organizers’ hands.
Thanks to connections in one of the district courts of the Odesa region, the perpetrators received fictitious decisions on establishing paternity, which allowed them to avoid mobilization and legally leave Ukraine.
The cost of this “package of services” was $3,000. Criminal proceedings were initiated under Part 2 of Article 15, Part 3 of Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (illegal smuggling of persons across the state border by prior conspiracy).
The group members face up to 9 years in prison.
The cyber police also warn about new types of fraud related to using electronic petitions.
