For $500, women recognized evasive strangers as the fathers of their children

The press service of the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office reported that a criminal group that organized fictitious paternity was exposed in the Kyiv region.

The investigation established that the perpetrators were looking for low-income women with young children and offered them to earn money. In return for a monetary reward, individuals were presented to recognize a stranger-evader, who already had two children of his own, as the father of their child. The presence of a third child contributed to the unhindered departure of military conscripts from Ukraine.

Thanks to connections in one of the district courts of the Odessa region, the perpetrators received the necessary court decisions to recognize what a “fake” paternity is. The scheme’s organizer took 3,000 US dollars from clients. From this amount, the mothers received 500 dollars each.

An indictment was sent to the court against the participants of the organized criminal group under the procedural guidance of the Kyiv City and Pechersk District Prosecutor’s Offices. The pre-trial investigation was conducted by specialists from the Pechersk Police Department of the Main Police Department in Kyiv with operational support from the Migration Police Department of the Main Police Department in the capital.

The perpetrators face up to 9 years in prison.
