Maguchik won her 20th victory, defeating the Australians in Xiame
The new season of the Diamond League, the most prestigious commercial athletics competition, has begun in the Chinese city of Xiamen. At the first stage, Ukraine was represented by high jumpers Yaroslava Maguchykh and Yulia Levchenko.
Maguchykh’s participation in the competition was notable. She is the reigning Olympic champion and three-time winner of the Diamond League finals. She competed in the sector together with strong rivals—Australians Nicola Olislagers and Eleanor Patterson, who won medals at the 2024 Olympics.
This was already Maguchykh’s second start against Australian athletes in 2025 after the World Indoor Championships, where she, feeling uncomfortable, finished third.
The first competition in Xiamen was successful: seven athletes cleared the first three heights. Yulia Levchenko, who needed an additional attempt at 1.84 m for the first time, cleared 1.91 m, updating her personal best for the season.
Only three participants remained at 1.94 m: Maguchikh, Olislagers, and Patterson. Levchenko failed to reach this height and finished the competition in fourth place.
The showdown occurred at 1.97 m: Yaroslava Maguchikh successfully cleared the bar on her first attempt, while the Australians could not repeat it. After that, the Ukrainians tried to conquer the height of 2.03 m, but were unsuccessful.

This victory was Yaroslava Maguchykh’s 20th at the Diamond League stages and the ninth in a row. The last time the Ukrainians did not win at the competition was in July 2023 in Monaco.
It should be noted that the Ukrainian gymnastics team also demonstrated high results at the tournament in Baku, where it won six medals, five of which went to Taisiya Onofriychuk.
