What happened to the property and assets of the mysteriously deceased People’s Deputy Davydenko, and what is the role of the offshore company Bagria in this situation – investigation

Oleksiy Bahriy, a participant in the high-profile case of leaving Ukraine under the guise of a volunteer, turned out to be involved in attempts to seize control of the agrarian business “Agrodim”, which was run by the deceased deputy Valery Davydenko. One of the key figures in this story is an offshore company registered in the UAE with ties to Bahriy.

On May 23, 2020, Davydenko’s body with a gunshot wound was found in an office in Kyiv. The cleaning lady who found him explained that she had come at the request of another people’s deputy, Borys Prykhodko, who intended to meet with the deceased. Initially, the case was considered a possible murder, but it was later reclassified as a suicide.

Davydenko owned a significant share of the holding “Agrodim”, which operated under the threat of losing control after his death. This is particularly related to debts to financial institutions related to Ukrainian agro-industrialist Andriy Verevsky.

Offshore schemes and the fight for assets

In July 2021, the decisions of the Commercial Court of Chernihiv Region revealed a company from the UAE with similar addresses and owners to Bagriy’s previous structure—Markeb Overseas FZE. This offshore company tried to obtain a stake in Agrodim through debt obligations.

A journalistic investigation revealed that Bagriy had close ties to these companies. His name is associated with many agricultural schemes, including the export and import of agricultural products, brokerage services, and the use of offshore jurisdictions to evade taxes.

Intention to seize assets

After Davydenko’s death, several people began to claim the assets of Agrodim, in particular, the company Progressive Investment Strategies, associated with Verevsky, and a structure from the UAE, which has ties to Bagriy. This happened at a time when media outlets associated with the offshore company were actively promoting Prykhodko.

According to information, the structure associated with Bagriy acquired “Cheline Media Group” a year before the events, which indicates that it was preparing an information campaign to support influence on regional assets.

Comment from the deceased’s wife

Davydenko’s widow claimed in one of her rare interviews that after her husband’s death, pressure from creditors began on Agrodim, which indicates attempts at raiding. Names and structures associated with Bagriy also appear in the court materials.

These events demonstrate the close connection between politics and business in Ukraine. Bagriy is a non-public figure, but his structures are connected to people with access to power. His departure from the country under the guise of a volunteer emphasizes his significant influence.

This situation is not over yet: legal proceedings are ongoing, new participants appear and disappear. The data collected by journalists indicate a well-coordinated strategy of influence on agricultural assets.
