“I promise to fulfill my duty”: Serbian President confirms participation in May 9 parade in Moscow

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić confirmed his intention to visit Moscow on May 9 to participate in the Victory Day celebrations, stressing that he had promised Putin his presence eight months ago.

Vučić noted that his word is binding in terms of international relations and before the Serbian people. He stressed that he is not in the habit of making promises without intending to keep them, and he is ready to refuse the trip only in case of a threat to Serbia or unforeseen circumstances.

The President also indicated his readiness to accept the possible consequences of his visit, including sanctions from the EU. He stressed that his trip is a personal commitment, not a political gesture, and noted: “No one else should go, no one else should suffer – I will go”.

Vucic also pointed out the importance of the next two to three weeks for Serbia, including his visit to the United States and the arrival of European dignitaries in Belgrade. He noted that some would try to convince him to cancel his trip to Moscow, but there were no sufficient arguments to change his decision. “Unless I know what will happen, or what threat will be directed at Serbia, it is not easy to change my decision,” he commented.
