Martin Scorsese to Produce New Documentary Featuring Pope Francis
Martin Scorsese will serve as producer for a new documentary film featuring Pope Francis, The Independent has reported.
The film, titled Aldeas — A New Story, will present conversations between the Pontiff and Scorsese that have taken place over several years, including the Pope’s last recorded interview before his death.
The documentary will focus on the international initiative Scholas Occurrentes, launched by Pope Francis in 2013. The initiative aims to support youth from different countries through sports, arts, and education.
In early April this year, Pope Francis shared his thoughts on the project, describing it as “Aldeas — a talented and important project, as it touches on the foundations of human life, relationships, and conflicts… the essence of the life journey.”
The filmmakers noted that these conversations served as a source of inspiration for Scorsese during the making of his 2017 film Silence.
The project is being developed with the support of Aldeas Scholas Film and Sikelia Productions, though the exact premiere date has not yet been announced.
Details about the upcoming film have sparked significant interest among fans of Scorsese and his collaboration with Pope Francis.
