Ukraine and Denmark signed a memorandum on cooperation in the field of water resources: Svitlana Hrynchuk spoke about the planned changes

The Ministries of Environmental Protection of Ukraine and the Ministry of Environment of Denmark have officially launched cooperation in water supply, modernization of water infrastructure, and implementation of advanced technologies.

A new partnership between Ukraine and Denmark

Today, during an informal meeting of EU environment ministers in Poland, Svitlana Grinchuk, head of the Ukrainian Ministry of Environmental Protection, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with her Danish counterpart, Magnus Hoynike.

“We have been cooperating with Denmark for a long time on water supply issues for the southern regions and European integration of Ukraine. Today we have officially agreed on our cooperation,” Grinchuk emphasized.

Areas of the agreement

According to the signed Memorandum, the cooperation will cover several key aspects:

Development of a modern system for monitoring water resources, including groundwater.
“Due to the war, we lost a lot of water resources, and to make quick decisions, we need accurate data. Denmark is ready to provide its support in this,” the minister noted.
Restoration and modernization of water supply and wastewater treatment infrastructure.
Ukraine will gain access to innovative technologies and strategies provided by Denmark.
Strengthening control over water pollution.
New initiatives are being developed with the Danish Environmental Protection Agency to monitor pollutants from industry and agriculture.
Support for reforms and attracting investments

The bilateral talks also discussed supporting Ukraine’s water sector reforms to European standards. Svitlana Grinchuk noted:

“Denmark supports not only modernization, but also the involvement of the private sector, which will provide new investments in the Ukrainian water infrastructure.”

I appreciate your support.

“I am grateful to the Government and people of Denmark for their continued support of Ukrainians. We will exchange knowledge and best practices and jointly seek new innovative solutions,” summed up Hrynchuk.

The signing of this Memorandum is another stage on the path to creating a modern and safe water system in Ukraine. Partnerships with EU countries make it possible to restore the destroyed infrastructure and lay the foundations for sustainable development in the future.
