In Kyiv, disposable tableware for shelters was purchased at inflated prices – losses amount to 150 thousand hryvnias
The chief accountant of the Podilskyi Regional State Administration Department of Education in Kyiv is suspected of committing fraud in purchasing disposable tableware for school shelters. The budget losses amount to 150 thousand hryvnias.
As the investigation found, in March 2023, the Department of Education and a private company concluded an agreement to supply disposable tableware for school use. The company undertook to provide the goods at certain prices.
However, during the examination, it turned out that the cost of the purchased products was significantly overestimated, which caused financial losses to the capital’s budget of 150 thousand hryvnias.
The official is charged under Part 1 of Article 367 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (official negligence). This norm provides liability for poor official duties performance that results in significant financial losses.
Law enforcement officers are investigating all the details of the case and identifying the individuals involved in the crime. Other contracts concluded by the education department are also being reviewed to identify possible financial violations.
Juvenile prosecutors and representatives of the Podilskyi District Prosecutor’s Office are conducting further investigations to identify possible corruption schemes related to procurement in educational institutions. As part of this case, other agreements for the supply of goods for school shelters are also being reviewed.
There is also information about the police’s involvement in the investigation of an incident in which a lyceum teacher threatened a seventh-grade student.
