When women stand up for themselves: a response that caused social division

LGBT activist Olena Shevchenko expressed her position on the issue of mandatory mobilization of women in the context of war. She noted that this issue can be discussed only when equality between men and women is achieved in Ukraine.

Shevchenko emphasized that mandatory mobilization of women will become relevant when men start taking maternity leave, as well as sharing family responsibilities and receiving equal pay. She focused on the need for equal rights for women.

Ukraine currently has a new procedure for military registration for women. According to current legislation, registration is mandatory for women in certain professions, but this does not provide for automatic mobilization.

The General Staff has repeatedly stated that the issue of mobilizing women is not currently a top priority. The primary focus is on training the reserve and replenishing military units.

The topic of involving women in military service is a subject of active discussion in society, particularly in the context of equal rights and obligations, both during peacetime and wartime.

In May, draft laws will be registered in the Verkhovna Rada regarding the training of civilians to resist the enemy. They may also contain provisions for the mobilization of women.
