Prices for apples, plums and apricots: how will they change in the summer

This year, Ukraine’s stone fruit harvest, including cherries, plums, and apricots, is expected to be significantly reduced, and their availability in stores may be limited.

Due to spring frosts, the country lost up to 60% of its fruit harvest. Such weather conditions have led to severe losses, which is affecting prices: currently, the cost of a kilogram of cherries or plums is 207 hryvnias, and apricots – 250 hryvnias. Unfortunately, you should not expect a significant price decrease.

However, there is some positive news: apples are currently available for 85.2 – 89.9 hryvnias per kilogram. Experts hope that an increase in the supply of Ukrainian apples in August and September may lead to a decrease in their price. Strawberry prices are also expected to drop to 100 hryvnias per kilogram in June.

Fruit pricing depends not only on weather conditions but also on the cost of fuel, logistics, storage, and increased tariffs for producers. This was reported in more detail by Inna Salo, Chief Researcher at the Institute of Agrarian Economics.

Despite the ongoing war since 2014, Ukraine continues to develop its agricultural sector. Therefore, it is essential to support Ukrainian producers through donations, volunteering, and purchasing their products.

It was previously reported that prices for vegetables and fruits may increase significantly due to shortages. The situation with agricultural products remains alarming, as future changes in pricing policy may affect consumers.
