Drug trafficking under the guise of a medical center: SBI operation in Kamianske

In the Dnipropetrovsk region, law enforcement officers have stopped the activities of an illegal drug business that operated under the guise of a medical center for free substitution therapy. The organizers were a former law enforcement officer and three of his accomplices, who, using an official license, sold drugs, including methadone, earning a profit of about 500 thousand hryvnias per month.

This was reported by the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI).

A joint operation by law enforcement officers of the Dnipropetrovsk region, with the participation of the SBI, the SBU, and the DVB of the National Police, allowed for the exposure of this attempted fraud in the territory of Kamyanske. The former police officer and his accomplices rented premises and created a center that, according to them, provided free therapy and psychological support to people with drug addiction.

Despite having an official license for storing drugs, the medical institution did not provide medical services, but was engaged in the sale of methadone and similar drugs. As a result of searches at the Center, more than 3,000 methadone tablets, about one million hryvnias in cash, and documents confirming the volume of illegal activity were seized.

All suspects were charged under Part 2 of Article 307 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine for transportation, storage, and sale of narcotic drugs. For these actions, they face imprisonment for a term of up to 10 years with confiscation of property.

Law enforcement officers are currently considering the issue of choosing a preventive measure in the form of detention. The Dnipropetrovsk Region Prosecutor’s Office carries out the procedural management of the case.
