Heat, drought and fire risk: regions of Ukraine that should be prepared for weather surprises
Anticyclone “Ines” is heading to Eastern Europe, and in the next ten days, Ukrainians can expect intensified weather fluctuations. At the same time, tropical heat will arrive in Western Europe from the northern latitudes of Africa.
Forecaster Ihor Kybalchych noted that in August, precipitation in Ukraine is expected to be below average, which may lead to drought and increased fire danger, especially in the east, south, and parts of the center of the country.
The anticyclone will also bring a decrease in temperature, which will be felt both during the day and at night. The coolness will be especially noticeable for residents of the northwestern and western regions. On the other hand, the heat is expected to increase in the eastern and northern areas, as well as in Transcarpathia.
Significant changes in the weather are expected only on August 19-20 due to the development of cyclonic activity and frontal systems in southeastern Europe.
Weather forecast
From August 12 to 15, the nighttime temperature in Ukraine is expected to range from +10 to +18 °C, while daytime temperatures will be between +25 and +31 °C. In Transcarpathia, the south, and Donbas, the night temperature will fluctuate from +16 to +22 °C, and hot weather is expected during the day.
From August 16 to 18, the temperature in Ukraine is expected to increase, except in the northwestern region. The night temperature will range from 16 to 23 °C, and during the day, it will range from 28 to 33 °C. In some areas, particularly in Transcarpathia and the southeastern regions, the temperature may reach +33 °C to +38 °C. Such an increase in temperature is due to the arrival of warm air from Asia Minor and the Balkans.
From August 19 to 20, gradual changes in the weather will begin, as more humid and cooler air from Scandinavia and the Baltic will start to arrive across Ukraine, initially in the northwestern regions. This will result in a decrease in nighttime temperatures by 5-7 °C, and daytime temperatures will range from +22 to +27 °C. However, in eastern and southern regions, daytime temperatures will still exceed +30 °C.
