Construction of the second Euro-gauge railway in Ukraine has begun in the Lviv region

Construction of a European-standard track has started in the Lviv region, connecting the border with Poland and Sknyliv.

Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine Oleksiy Kuleba and Head of the European Commission for Transport Magda Kopchynska attended the ceremony. The European Commission has allocated 73.5 million euros in grants to implement this critical infrastructure project.

According to Maksym Kozytsky, this construction will contribute to Ukraine’s full integration into the European transport network and strengthen economic and logistical ties with other countries.

Construction is planned to be completed by 2027. This track will be the second in Ukraine to be built according to European standards; the first, from Chop to Uzhhorod, is already open and provides passenger transportation to Bratislava, Kosice, Budapest, and Vienna.

“The Lviv region has always been considered Ukraine’s gateway to Europe. Now it will become a reality,” said Kozytskyi.

By the end of 2027, Ukrzaliznytsia will lay a Eurorail to Lviv, opening the possibility of launching direct trains to Vienna, Krakow, and Warsaw.
