The Big Tariff Scam: How Ukrainians Are Being Misled About Utility Services
The temporary investigative commission of the Verkhovna Rada found that the increase in electricity tariffs for the population was groundless and illegal.
This was reported by Oleg Popenko, head of the Union of Consumers of Public Utilities, on his Facebook page. According to him, the commission confirmed his claim that the increase in electricity prices lacked economic grounds.
Popenko also noted that 88 billion hryvnias were collected from Ukrainians allegedly to “cover energy risks”, but these funds were not used for their intended purpose.
He emphasized that citizens were told tariffs needed to be increased to protect the energy system during the war. In fact, these funds disappeared without a trace from the system or were used to pay for “green” electricity.
“$88 billion is not just a number; it is a huge state problem for which someone must be responsible. When Ukrainians pay more, the state should become stronger, not weaker,” Popenko wrote.
As a reminder, information was previously published about the challenges Ukrainians may face in winter, including issues with electricity supply and home heating. It was also reported that there are conditions for reducing gas costs for a specific category of consumers.
