Chaotic power outages: reasons for changing schedules
The situation with electricity supply in Ukraine is becoming increasingly complicated, as citizens increasingly complain about unpredictable power outages. Europeans often find that the outage schedule is not adhered to, and the times of electricity supply are becoming more erratic, which complicates the planning of everyday life.
Representatives of the energy sector assure that such changes are not the result of chaos but a forced response to the current state of the energy system. This was reported by the company “Prykarpattyaoblenergo” on its official page in social networks.
According to the company, the outage schedules are formed in accordance with the instructions of NPC “Ukrenergo”. They are agreed in advance but can be adjusted during the day as the balance between electricity production and consumption changes. Changes can be approved by dispatchers in real time, taking into account network load and potential emergencies.
The Ministry of Energy notes that several important factors affect the schedules:
weather – during cold or abnormally hot weather, electricity consumption increases due to heating or air conditioning;
time of day – in the morning and evening, the load on the power grid is traditionally higher than during the day;
accidents and damage to energy facilities;
new attacks on energy infrastructure that may compromise system stability.
Thus, outage schedules may change several times a day for specific consumer groups. The correction may also be affected by delays in restoring power supply and by the need to equalize network voltages.
The Ministry of Energy emphasizes that frequent changes in schedules are not a “chaotic” switching, but a controlled process aimed at preventing major blackouts.
