8 мільйонів гривень на установки підземних смітників: які плани у Чернівців?

8 million hryvnias for the installation of underground landfills: what are Chernivtsi’s plans?

In Chernivtsi, more than 8 million hryvnias will be allocated to implement a project to install five underground garbage bins.

According to the local department of transport and communal services, new waste collection sites are to be installed on several streets in the city.

Plans for the installation of garbage bins include the following addresses:

The intersection of Mykola Lysenko and Lesia Ukrainka streets. The connection to the electricity grid is underway here, after which the containers will be put into operation. Installation work is planned to be completed by November 30.
Mykola Gogolya Street, 2. The contractor has pledged to complete the work by February 28, 2026.
Between houses No. 17 and No. 19 on Charles Darwin Street. The work is scheduled to be completed by December 15 of this year.
Ustyma Karmelyuka Street, 135B.
Between houses No. 3 and No. 5B on Oleksandra Shcherbanyuka Street.
This project is not an innovation, as the city already has 21 underground dumpsters.

The installation of such containers helps solve several significant infrastructure problems: they save space in densely populated areas, improve street appearance, reduce unpleasant odors, and increase sanitation levels. This is especially important in the city’s historic places, where preserving the architectural character is crucial. The only drawback is the high cost and complexity of installing dumpsters in many landscapes, as they require lifting mechanisms and electrical connections.
