Britain plans to send troops to Ukraine after peace is achieved

The UK has announced its readiness to deploy its troops in Ukraine after a ceasefire agreement is reached. The government has already identified specific units and developed action plans as part of the Coalition of the Determined initiative, which is being implemented together with France.

The main measures include establishing a coordination center in Kyiv, training Ukrainian military personnel on the ground, and expanding the Black Sea Group, which will be responsible for securing sea routes.

The budget for the first phase of the operation exceeds £100 million. Defence Secretary John Healy said that the British military has already carried out the necessary reconnaissance in Ukraine and knows which units and where they should be sent in the event of a peace agreement. He also noted that a plan has been prepared to establish a headquarters, to be led by a British major general.

“We have conducted reconnaissance in Ukraine. We know which units we will use, how we will deploy them, and what responsibilities we will assign to them,” Healy told reporters in Plymouth.

The plans will be coordinated with other coalition member states and will be adapted to the terms of the peace agreement. “These plans make it clear that once peace is achieved, we will be ready to act,” the minister stressed, confirming the possible participation of the British military in ensuring long-term peace in Ukraine.

In parallel, a meeting of Ukrainian representatives with a delegation of the American military took place in Kyiv. The purpose of this meeting was to resume negotiations with Russia. According to information, a plan comprising 28 points is under consideration, including proposals for concessions in the Donbas and a limit on the size of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Ukraine, together with its European partners, including Great Britain, is skeptical of these negotiations and is not participating.

John Healy positively assessed the negotiations in Kyiv and noted that London supports US initiatives on a peaceful settlement.

It should be noted that Great Britain has been training Ukrainian military personnel on its territory for a long time, but now seeks to start teaching them directly in Ukraine.

After a ceasefire agreement is reached, a coordination center will be established in Kyiv, headed by a British officer. This center will handle logistics, armaments, personnel training, and the control of safe airspace for the restoration of civil air traffic.

In addition, the Black Sea Group, which includes Turkey, Romania, and Bulgaria, will also be expanded. Its main goal is to clear the waterways of mines and ensure safe shipping in Ukrainian ports.
