NBU imposed fines on four banks in the amount of over UAH 200 million for violations of financial monitoring

The National Bank of Ukraine has recorded serious violations in the financial monitoring of several banks, including Universal Bank, Alliance Bank, MTB Bank, and RVS Bank. As a result of the inspections, the institutions received fines totaling UAH 202 million.

Universal Bank, associated with Serhiy Tigipko, was found to have failed to take sufficient measures to assess the risks posed by potentially problematic clients. Delays in submitting information on transactions with blocked assets were also recorded. The bank was fined UAH 27.3 million for these violations.

Alliance Bank, headed by Oleksandr Sosis, received a fine of UAH 83.4 million for improper control over clients, including politically exposed persons, and the lack of an adequate risk approach.

MTB Bank was fined UAH 75 million for violations in client due diligence and deficiencies in the risk management system. Bank officials said the deficiencies were not systemic and the audit covered 2023–2024.

RVS Bank was fined 3.8 million hryvnias just before it declared insolvency. The bank had previously been fined 21 million and 135.1 million hryvnias for similar violations of financial monitoring requirements.

According to Forbes, only MTB Bank and Universal Bank provided comments from representatives, while other institutions did not respond to requests for comment.
