Entertainment can lead to fines: Ukrainians began to be punished for content on TikTok

Ukraine has begun imposing fines for content on the social network TikTok.

The Mykolaiv District Court has ruled to fine a woman for a video posted by her minor son. The teenager posted a video on TikTok that featured Russian pop music with obscene language, as a result of which the mother was held liable. The corresponding ruling appeared on December 1 in the Unified Register of Court Decisions.

As indicated in the case materials, the incident occurred on October 26. Then the woman allowed her son to get behind the wheel of a Kia Sorento and drive along a country road. During this, the teenager did not use a seat belt and recorded his journey on his phone. After that, he published a video with a Russian music track that contained obscene language.

The court ruling states that the video “undermines the national-patriotic spirit of citizens and participants in the educational process and demonstrates disrespect for the state language.”

During the trial, the woman stated she was aware of the video but did not consider it a reflection of the problem. She assured that she would arrange a preventive conversation with her son in the future. Despite this, the court found her guilty of improper performance of maternal duties and imposed a fine of 850 hryvnias.
