Rob Reiner’s son arrested on suspicion of murdering his parents: Trump cynically spoke about the actor’s death

Nick Reiner, 32, son of famed director Rob Reiner, has been arrested in Los Angeles on suspicion of murdering his parents, The New York Times reports.

Reiner was arrested on the evening of December 14. He is currently being held in the county jail. He was initially held on $4 million bail, but that was later revoked.

The case of possible murder is due to be handed over to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office on December 16, after which formal charges may be filed.

The bodies of Rob and Michelle Reiner were found in their home in the prestigious Brentwood neighborhood. Rob Reiner is known for such films as “Stay with Me,” “When Harry Met Sally,” “Misery,” and “A Few Good Men.” His wife worked as a photographer and producer.

Nick collaborated with his father on the film “Being Charlie, based on his personal life, and has repeatedly mentioned his drug problems and periods of homelessness.

The tragedy received additional publicity following US President Donald Trump’s statements. In his post on the social network Truth Social, he stated that Reiner and his wife “may have died out of anger, which the director provoked with his criticism of Trump. The president described Reiner as “tortured and suffering” and mentioned his “obsession” with politics.

These words caused a wide resonance. Many representatives of both parties, both Democrats and Republicans, sharply condemned this statement. Republican Congressman Thomas Massie called it “inappropriate and offensive, while Republican Marjorie Taylor Greene emphasized that this was a personal tragedy, not related to politics.

Even House Speaker Mike Johnson, a Trump ally, distanced himself from his comments, saying they were meant to appeal to the best in human nature and stressing that it was a personal position.

Asked by reporters at the White House about his support for Trump’s comments, the president said he was not a fan of Reiner.
