Hazardous medical waste found at unauthorized landfill in Zhytomyr

Law enforcement officers have recorded the fact of illegal dumping of medical waste in the territory near the city landfill in Zhytomyr. Bright red bags marked “Especially dangerous”, containing used syringes and other medical instruments, were simply thrown out on the open ground, which raised concerns about compliance with sanitary standards.

The illegal removal of waste is associated with the private enterprise “VZHREP No. 4”, the head of which is Volodymyr Tychyna. The question arises: who exactly brought this hazardous waste and why was this possible?

During the investigation, it was found that the bags with medical waste ended up in the territory controlled by “VZHREP No. 4”, and not at the official landfill. Tychyna denies any involvement in the situation and points to the municipal enterprise KATP 0628, claiming that the packages are not their property.

The management of KATP took responsibility for the clarification, noting that Tychyna’s statement is a joke and claims that their vehicles are not involved in dumping medical waste.

Both sides of the conflict are waging a skirmish, accusing each other of violations, and only the investigation will be able to clarify the situation.

In addition, Tychyna refers to the fact that his company is trying to operate in conditions where they are denied access to the main landfill, as a result of which the waste is dumped elsewhere. This problem affects not only medical waste, but also the general state of sanitation in the city.

Residents of surrounding neighborhoods are concerned about the health and environmental risks, as medical waste can cause serious diseases due to its precarious storage near residential areas.

Thus, the jurisprudence related to this incident foresees serious consequences both for those responsible and for the local population at risk due to improper waste management.
