Fines for burning leaves and dry grass will increase in Ukraine from 2026: government introduces stricter sanctions
In Ukraine, new, stricter fines for burning leaves, dry grass, and plant residues will come into force in 2026. The main goal of these changes is to reduce the risks of fires, smoke, and improve public health and the state of the environment.
Ukrainian lawmakers have decided to increase responsibility for burning plant waste. During the spring and autumn periods, a sharp increase in cases of smoke in settlements and, as a result, local fires is traditionally recorded. The new sanctions will come into force in 2026.
According to the revised norms, citizens who burn dry grass or leaves risk receiving fines that can reach several minimum wages. Fines for officials and enterprises will be even stricter. The authorities note that these measures are aimed at deterring violators and preventing environmental threats.
Environmentalists emphasize that burning plant waste harms nature and human health. Burning releases hazardous toxic substances that worsen air quality and can exacerbate chronic diseases. Uncontrolled arsons also often cause large-scale fires that can damage property and the environment.
The authorities recommend that citizens use safe methods of disposing of plant waste, such as composting, shredding leaves, and transferring waste to special recycling sites. These methods will help avoid harm to health and the ecosystem.
The introduction of new fines from 2026 should become an effective incentive to comply with the rules and reduce the frequency of dangerous arsons during harvest. Thanks to this innovation, it is planned to protect both people and the environment.
Unstable weather is expected in Ukraine in the coming days, which is associated with a change in the synoptic situation.
