Не жити від зарплати до зарплати: яка сума потрібна в Україні

Don’t live paycheck to paycheck: how much money is needed in Ukraine

According to a survey conducted by the Zagoriy Foundation NGO together with the SOCIS Center, the perception of “normal life” among Ukrainians remains quite simple and down-to-earth.

For most people, it is not luxuries that are important, but basic stability: stable employment, regular income without significant fluctuations, and the absence of debt obligations – this is what creates a sense of well-being.

In financial terms, this level is estimated at 20-40 thousand hryvnias per month, which is an indispensable minimum to cover life’s needs and avoid constant stress from lack of funds.

But the idea of abundance is a broader concept. Ukrainians associate a secure life not only with current income, but also with the ability to plan for their future. This includes having a financial cushion, a stable source of income or their own business, as well as the ability to invest in education, development, and recreation. According to respondents, this requires earning an average of 120,000 to 200,000 hryvnias per month.

As for an even higher level of wealth, it is associated with financial freedom, which allows you not to limit your spending, help others, and influence social processes. According to those surveyed, the status of true wealth begins with an income of over 400,000 hryvnias per month.

The attitude towards wealth in society is ambiguous. On the one hand, it is a symbol of independence and a quality life, on the other hand, many people believe that wealth is often obtained through dishonest means. More than half of those surveyed do not believe in the possibility of achieving financial success solely through their own work, while about 40% admit such a possibility, but without much confidence.

The financial situation of most Ukrainians remains difficult: about 84% of income goes to basic needs – food, utilities, and daily expenses. Ideally, people would like to reduce the share of mandatory expenses to half of their budget, redirecting the freed up funds to development, recreation and savings.

Thus, society strives not only for increased incomes, but also for predictability, fair conditions and the confidence that efforts can be rewarded with a better life.
