Tornado in Kyiv region is a worrying sign: ecologists expect an increase in the number of tornadoes in the country

An unusual natural phenomenon was observed in the territory of the Kyiv region – a tornado, which quickly aroused the interest of users of social networks. Although experts note that it was more likely a tornado than a real tornado, they warn that such phenomena may become more frequent in the future.

Ecologist Oleksandr Sokolenko commented on the situation, indicating that tornadoes are formed as a result of the collision of cold and warm air masses. Such phenomena are usually observed in regions with strong temperature contrasts, in particular in the south of Ukraine, where temperature differences between the sea and land contribute to the emergence of whirlwinds.

In recent days, Ukraine has observed an abnormally high temperature, after which it suddenly became cold, which could have led to the formation of a tornado in the Kyiv region.

According to the expert, the detected tornado did not have significant power and did not pose a serious threat. Unlike strong tornadoes that can destroy entire cities, this whirlwind could only knock a person off balance or snatch objects from their hands.

Interestingly, despite the fact that such phenomena are not everyday in Ukraine, experts predict that, due to climate change, tornadoes may become more frequent and more intense. According to Sokolenko, nature has already begun to show changes, and phenomena similar to spring tornadoes may appear more often in the future.

“Due to climate change that is taking place in Ukraine, we may observe an increase in the number of such phenomena. There is a risk that they will become more active and dangerous,” he stressed.

How to protect yourself when meeting a tornado?

Experts recommend following these tips:

Seek shelter immediately – it is best to stay indoors or in a basement, if possible.

Avoid open spaces – if there is no access to a building, lie on the ground and cover your head with your hands or a bag.
Do not stay near trees or poles – in strong winds they can be dangerous.
Follow weather warnings – follow forecasts and warnings to be aware of possible threats in advance.
