Parliament, in fact, represents exclusively its own interests, – Yuriy Havrylechko about the Verkhovna Rada

This became known during an interview on the program “Personality with Serhiy Doyk.”

The guest noted that, in the modern world, including Ukraine, the principle of separation of powers —a fundamental aspect of democracy —is unfortunately not being implemented. He explains that in different countries, this mechanism works with varying efficiency, but in general, parliamentarian shows a tendency towards its violation.

“The reason lies in the fact that during the struggle for the independence of the parliament, we have reached a stage when it represents only itself. This is explained by the fact that the deputies have a free mandate instead of an imperative one,” comments expert Yuriy Gavrilechko.

He emphasizes that after the elections, voters lose the opportunity to control their representatives, as they cannot be recalled or forced to act by the voters’ interests. As a result, deputies are not responsible for their actions, statements, or decisions made in parliament.

“This is not only our problem but also a global trend. At the same time, in more developed countries, a system of reputation control influences politics. Unfortunately, in Ukraine, this mechanism does not exist in practice. We have politicians who constantly change parties, which is a rare phenomenon in other countries,” emphasizes Gavrilechko.
