They tried to take a fugitive from Ukraine for $8,000: two Moldovans detained
On the Odesa-Reni highway, law enforcement officers detained two Moldovan citizens – drivers of a regular bus, who were trying to take a man of draft age out of Ukraine illegally. The State Border Guard Service reported this information.
Together with internal security operatives of the State Border Guard Service “South,” employees of the Security Service of Ukraine in the Odesa region, and the National Police, an operation was carried out to expose the offenders.
The criminals were searching for potential clients through internet messengers. To avoid checks at the “Mayaki” checkpoint and the “Palanka-Mayaki-Udobne” checkpoint, they hid the evader in the structural cavities of the bus, specifically in the tool compartment.
The organizers received $8,000 for this illegal activity. Both drivers were detained by Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. They were informed of suspicion under Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (illegal smuggling of persons across the state border). The court decided to take them into custody for a period of 60 days.
The procedural management in this case is carried out by the Malinovsky District Prosecutor’s Office of Odessa.
It is worth noting that recently, the Odessa Border Guard Unit also detained a truck driver who tried to illegally transport four passengers across the border, receiving $6,000 from each. In two days, the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine detected 13 evaders who tried to cross the border in the Chernivtsi region.
