Which military personnel is entitled to a million hryvnia reward: lawyer’s explanation

Citizens who defended Ukraine during martial law may be eligible for a one-time payment of 1 million hryvnias. Lawyer Daria Golodnyak explained who can count on these funds, what conditions must be met, and what the Ministry of Defense is paying attention to.

One million hryvnias is the amount intended for volunteer service members who joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine during martial law. The Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 153 regulates this payment.

According to lawyer and human rights activist Daria Golodnyak, this payment can be received by:

military personnel of the rank of private, sergeant, or foreman
who first entered service during mobilization
either on a contract basis or by conscription
aged from 18 to 24 years old
“The key is that a serviceman must perform combat missions for at least 6 months. In the case of a shorter period, the amount will be calculated proportionally – one-sixth for each month of service,” explained Golodnyak.

However, there is an exception: if a service member receives an injury, wound, contusion, or other injury while performing combat missions, he is entitled to the full amount, regardless of the length of service.

Another essential condition is the absence of repeated administrative violations or criminal cases. Otherwise, the payment may be canceled.

The decision on payment is made in the following order:

The submission of documents is initiated
The documents are sent to the Department of Social Security
After verification and coordination with the Ministry of Defense, a decision is made regarding payment.
“With the correct collection of documents and confirmation of the grounds, the military unit must send the documents to the department. Then the Ministry of Defense approves them,” the lawyer added.
