Ukraine seeks to overcome pension inequality: some live in abundance, others suffer from starvation

The minimum pension in Ukraine is currently 2,361 hryvnia, while some former prosecutors, judges, and high-ranking officials continue to receive special pensions exceeding 100,000 hryvnias per month.

The need to combat injustice in the pension system stems from the abolition of special pensions and the deindustrialization of the economy. Danylo Hetmantsev, head of the parliamentary Committee on Finance, Tax and Customs Policy, stated this.

According to him, in 2025, the average pension in Ukraine is expected to reach 6,341 hryvnias, but approximately 36% of the population will receive less than 4,000 hryvnias. Hetmantsev noted that this is humiliating for a country that aspires to be part of the European community.

He emphasized: “But even worse is the existence of so-called special pensions for prosecutors, judges, and other officials, which allows them to retire at the age of 35 with huge payments.”

Danylo Hetmantsev reported that a bill is being prepared for its second reading, which concerns the abolition of special pensions aimed at reducing social inequality in the pension system.

He also noted that increasing the minimum payments to pensioners will become feasible through the redistribution of budget funds and bringing the economy out of the shadows.
