New changes in pension payments are being prepared for pensioners: who will receive additional benefits, when, and how much

Ukrainian pensioners will see an increase in pension payments in 2024. This applies to both the minimum and maximum amounts. The corresponding changes are included in the draft Budget Declaration for the fiscal year 2026-2027.

According to the government’s plans, the minimum pension will increase to 2,564 hryvnias, which is 203 hryvnias more than the current amount. The maximum retirement benefit will increase by 2,030 hryvnias, amounting to 25,640 hryvnias, compared to the current 23,610 hryvnias.

For individuals over 65 years of age with a full insurance record (30 years for women and 35 years for men), the minimum guaranteed pension payment will be 3,475.20 hryvnias. This corresponds to 40% of the expected minimum wage level, which is expected to increase to 8,688 hryvnias in 2026.

It should be noted that in 2026, it is also planned to carry out an annual indexation of pensions by the inflation rates of 2025 and changes in average salaries.

Despite these improvements, experts note that without significant changes to the pension system, such increases will not be sufficient to resolve existing social inequalities. It is necessary to update approaches to calculating pensions and find stable sources of financing.

It was previously reported that the length of service, salary, and age may affect the size of the pension, as well as the possibility of allowances for pensioners, including 2,000 hryvnias for specific categories of the population. Additionally, three groups of pensioners will receive extra payments on their birthdays.
