SBU uncovered a scheme that threatened free supplies of electronic warfare equipment to Ukraine

In Kyiv, the Security Service of Ukraine discovered and detained two men who were trying to disrupt the transfer of electronic warfare equipment to Ukraine. These specialized complexes were manufactured by a foreign company and transferred to Ukraine with the financial support of international partners.

As it became known, the attackers began to blackmail the EW manufacturer, demanding a bribe of $200,000, promising to “help” in promoting positive assessments of the equipment’s quality. In the event of successful use of the equipment in combat conditions, the partner country planned to increase the order, which was important for the manufacturer.

The SBU officers documented the crime and detained them immediately after the entire bribe was transferred.

Both suspects were charged under several articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:

obstructing the activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (Part 2 of Article 28, Part 1 of Article 114-1),
extorting and receiving illegal benefits for influencing officials (Part 2 of Article 28, Part 3 of Article 369-2).
The sanctions under these articles provide for a penalty of imprisonment for a term of up to 8 years with confiscation of property. The investigation is ongoing, and the measures were carried out under the procedural guidance of the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office in the defense sector.
