Three conditions under which men with disabilities can be drafted

Since the beginning of the large-scale war in Ukraine, a general mobilization has been underway, during which all those liable for military service are being called up for duty. According to current legislation, persons with disabilities are exempt from mobilization. However, certain exceptions are worth remembering.

According to Part 1 of Article 23 of the Law of Ukraine, “On Mobilization Training and Mobilization,” citizens recognized as disabled by a medical commission or by legal order cannot be mobilized.

This rule applies to individuals with disabilities in groups I, II, and III, as well as those who are scheduled to undergo a medical examination within 6 to 12 months. During this time, such persons are exempted from service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

However, men can be mobilized with a high probability under the following conditions:

If the decision of the military medical commission canceled the disability;

If the person did not receive a deferral for medical reasons;

If a person is not registered with the Territorial Center for Recruiting and Social Support (TCK and SP) and has not officially confirmed the presence of a disability.
Voluntary Service

It is worth noting separately that persons with disabilities have the opportunity to join the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine voluntarily. If their health permits, such individuals can enter into a contract and begin service of their own free will.
