More than 60% of refugees may remain outside Ukraine: demographic crisis predicted for the country

During the three years of the war, the authorities did not consider it necessary to support Ukrainian refugees. As a result, many citizens who left the country may remain abroad for an extended period. People’s Deputy Ruslan Gorbenko expressed this opinion.

Gorbenko emphasized that during the full-scale aggression, no attention was paid to those who left Ukraine. However, the situation requires the creation of comfortable conditions for their return after the war ends.

In his opinion, it is urgent to start working on improving the conditions for return. “If we take into account the last three years, no one has solved the issue of citizens who have left. It is essential to create conditions for people to return,” the deputy emphasized.

He noted that a significant amount of time has been lost, and many Ukrainians have already managed to adapt to their new places of residence, which increases the risk that a substantial part of them will not return to Ukraine. “From what we can observe, more than 60% of Ukrainians will most likely not return. Time has been lost, and we are once again forced to look for a solution to the problem, not to prevent it,” the MP added.

Ruslan Gorbenko emphasized the importance of the government intensifying efforts to maintain contact with Ukrainians abroad and creating conditions for the voluntary return of citizens after the war ends.
